Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish writer and poet. He is best known for his works The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. Wilde had a wife, Constance, and two children, but was accused of and imprisoned for sodomy (sexual relations with another man). While public view widely states that he was homosexual, historians and biographers largely consider him to be bisexual. Speculations on Wilde’s sexuality tend to be guilty of monosexism by assuming that his affairs with other men meant he was not attracted to women, despite him having a wife and children.
